During the manhunt, a young woman was also under surveillance. She took with her car a person dressed in a burqa, "whose appearance suggested that it was a man," said the chief investigator.

Faid was captured early wednesday morning in the commune of creil, north of paris. There were no intercepts, although the escapee had a loaded revolver lying within reach. The investigators also arrested faid’s brother, a nephew and a woman at the scene. Investigators seized, among other things, two burkas – i.E. Full-body veils – and an automatic weapon of the uzi type.

Faid, who has already been sentenced to several prison terms, was arrested on 1 january 2012. July escaped from a prison southeast of the french capital. Armed accomplices had taken control of a helicopter and used it to enter a courtyard of the facility. The outbreak lasted only a few minutes, no one was injured.

Faid had already escaped from prison once in 2013. At that time, he had taken four guards as hostages. Last april, a court sentenced faid to 25 years in prison for his alleged role in foiling a 2010 robbery plot. During a chase, a policewoman was killed.
